A facial that starts with a close look

Two licensed estheticians, a lamp and a card for your skin. We look first, write down what we see and plan your facial from it. Evenings Tuesday to Friday, and we're taking new clients.

  • Open until 8 p.m. Tuesday to Friday

Your skin card

Eight things we look at, and write down

Every first visit starts with a skin analysis. We fill in your card in plain words, not scores, and every visit adds a line to it.

  • Lamp and touch

    Texture

How smooth or uneven the surface is, and where it feels rough or dry to the fingertip.

  • By touch

    Hydration

How comfortable your skin feels, and where it tightens a few minutes after cleansing.

  • Under the lamp

    Oil balance

Where skin runs shiny, where it runs dry, and how that moves through a workday.

  • You tell us

    Sensitivity

How easily your skin flushes, stings or reacts to a product, and which ones it dislikes.

  • Under the lamp

    Pores and congestion

How open or crowded the pores look, and where they cluster, checked with extra magnification.

  • Under the lamp

    Tone

Where color looks even and where it varies, in a light balanced to daylight.

  • You tell us

    Sun

What you wear in the sun, how often, and how your skin behaves after time outdoors.

  • You tell us

    Routine

What you use morning and night, in what order, and what you've paused or stopped.

After work

Evenings, Tuesday to Friday

Humectant stays open until 8 p.m. on weekdays, so a facial can follow the workday. The studio is on the second floor of a building in Old Town Fairfax, with parking behind it and an elevator in the lobby.

  • Express facials take 30 minutes

  • The last appointment is at 6:30 p.m.

  • Parking behind the building

  • Saturday visits run 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Your estheticians

Two estheticians, one card

  • Munira Hammad, the lead esthetician, in a charcoal tunic folding a towel on a facial bed

    Munira Hammad

    Lead esthetician and owner

    • Esthetician license · VA Lic. 000000

Munira opened Humectant to make a facial something you can follow: she looks closely, writes down what she sees and plans from the notes. She works Tuesday to Saturday and speaks English and Arabic.

  • Reena Bakshi, an esthetician, in a pale blue tunic at the studio counter with mask bowls and brushes

    Reena Bakshi

    Esthetician

    • Esthetician license · VA Lic. 000000

Reena works from the same card and the same notes, so a visit with her picks up where the last one left off. She works Wednesday to Saturday and speaks English, Hindi and Gujarati.

Clients

What clients say about a visit

“I booked a Thursday evening and was on my way home before dinner. Munira told me what she saw under the lamp before she touched my face.”

Tamsin R.

“The card at the end was the part I kept. It listed what we did and what to try at home, in words I could follow.”

Ines P.

“Reena explained each step before she did it, and she stopped the moment I asked.”

Questions

Short answers before you book

What happens at a first visit?

You start with a skin analysis: your routine, how your skin behaves and a look under the lamp. We fill in your card, then do a custom facial planned from it. Plan on 80 minutes.

Can I come straight from work?

Yes. Makeup is fine; we cleanse first. Evening visits run until 8 p.m. Tuesday to Friday, and the last appointment is at 6:30 p.m.

Do I need a consultation first?

Yes, once, before a peel, dermaplaning or a custom facial. For a first visit it is the first 30 minutes. If you come back after a long break, we start with a short check of your card.

Which of you do I book with?

Either. Munira and Reena use the same card and the same notes, so a visit with one picks up where the last one left off. You can book with a named person on the booking page.

What do you do when you suggest a dermatologist?

We say so at the visit and write down why on your card. We don't diagnose, and we don't promise that a facial will change a skin condition. If your doctor agrees, we can still see you for calmer visits while you wait for an appointment.
